From Hawaii to Manhattan, I moved 6,000 miles from one island to another to leave my sleepy beach town and make it big in the city that never sleeps. Born and raised in Hawaii, I broke into public relations and events as a glorified secretary at a PR firm in Honolulu. Fortunately, the firm was small, the clients were big, and it wasn't long before I was working on some of the most exciting events to hit Oahu.
Hawaii is my home and I had lived there all of my life, but I knew I was getting too big for the Islands. I needed more people, more excitement, and more challenges. In December 2002, I took a leap of faith — across the Pacific Ocean and Continental United States — first step: Washington D.C.
After attaining my Event Management Certificate at George Washington University in DC, I was craving the bright lights and excitement of a big city. With some great events under my belt, I knew I was ready for the Big Apple. Two and a half years later, I found myself enjoying life in NY after building a thriving network of event professionals and launching my own company. But first, my day job. As the Director of Communications and Special Events for a non-profit organization called the Israel Humanitarian Foundations, I executed 7 major events including Fashion Galas, Annual Benefits, Food & Wine Tastings, Young Professional Benefits, and more.
Now back to my entrepreneurial activities. After learning about NY's event industry, I realized there was a gap and I set out to fill it. In February 2003, I began building my own little empire which has tipped NY's event world. I created an association now know as New York Even Planners (NYEP) LLC. NYEP is a great fit with Event Headquarters LLC, what I like to call and event planners dream web site.
But an event planner always has to be planning a party, so in addition to NYEP & EHQ, in August 2005, I founded a boutique event management company called Soiree Events. We specialize in producing events to raise fund and awareness for non-profit organizations (who don't have the time, resources, or know-how to do it themselves).
So after coming half-way around the world, I have found my niche in event planning in New York City's busy market. But it was almost a given that I'd end up in a city that never sleeps making sure that there's always something fun going on. Event Planning jives with my energy, vision, passion and insatiable appetite for social situations. I love every moment of the anticipation of what life holds for me tomorrow.
